Why are the arts important?

I have seen firsthand the boundless influence quality arts programming has on the well-being of this city’s population.  The arts have a profound ability to impact change, connect communities, create social cohesion, and establish positive, inclusive spaces in a city.  Witnessing this has lead me to pursue a career in music where I will have the opportunity to positively impact Toronto’s cultural life through teaching and creating music.

Where do you live in the city?

Leslieville

What is your favourite Toronto neighbourhood?

Toronto has so many great neighbourhoods!  I have really been enjoying living and exploring in the east end for the past two years.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

Walking, hiking, taking photographs, cooking, reading books

What was your reaction after learning that you are a finalist for the Emerging Artist Award?

Excited!

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I feel very fortunate that my work requires continual growth and learning, as every project comes with challenges and unique creative problems to solve.  Being a composer requires a curious mind, lifelong learning, and the ability to be quietly attuned to the nuances of life.  This is why I love what I do.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you to the Toronto Arts Foundation for making these awards possible and for honouring the amazing artistic work taking place in this city.
