Today is Red Dress Day. On this day and all days, Toronto Arts Council and Toronto Arts Foundation honour the memories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Girls, Two-Spirit People, their families and chosen families. We reaffirm our commitment to be allies to members of Indigenous communities and will continue to advocate for justice and equality.

This image of a red dress is by Catherine Tammaro, Wyandot multi-disciplinary artist, and Indigenous Arts Program Manager, Toronto Arts Council.

"The image was made to resemble a store-bought red dress on a hanger, showing the wholesale ways in which Indigenous women are harmed across cultures and an acknowledgment of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade by the US Supreme Court. The background suggests a murky ill-defined camouflage with all the accompanying implications. It was a painful image to make but its intention was to honour and strongly portray my feelings of deep mourning for those lives being cheated so terribly." - Catherine Tammaro
