Park In Motion 🌳 Park in Motion is a family-friendly outdoor dance performance series by MillO Dance Projects.Through performances and interactive activities, Park In Motion aims to celebrate diversity and foster a vibrant and inclusive space to connect with and bring together the community. 🌳This year, we are showcasing two 15-minute contemporary dance works: Colours, choreographed and performed by MillO Dance Projects, and To My Past…, choreographed and performed by Nickeshia Garrick. Themes of home, connection, and self-discovery flow through contemporary dance, improvisation, and vocal work. Art On My Mind 2025 Organized by the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery of York University Art on My Mind 2025 is a songwriting, performance and dance program for youth designed and facilitated by Jane Finch Hip hop artist and event producer Nathan Baya. This program will be geared towards youth and emerging artists (between the ages of 14-25) who wish to hone and improve their songwriting, live performance, and dance skills.As the founder of Jane Street Speaks, Baya brings extensive experience facilitating music workshops for emerging musicians. He also has a strong history of creating performance platforms that spotlight, recognize and celebrate the talents and achievements of emerging artists.Engaging up and coming hip hop and R&B artists from west end Toronto including the Jane Finch community, Baya will facilitate 20 hours of songwriting, performance and dance workshops.Participants will learn about the building blocks of songs including how to write an intro, verse, hook, chorus, bridge, outro and ad libs as well as how to prepare for a live performance They will have opportunities to participate in cyphers in order to gain experience in improvisatory freestyling. The curriculum will focus on the art of performance including developing a strong stage presence, demonstrating how to captivate audiences by emotionally connecting with them, and integrating movement and choreography into your performance.A select number of workshop participants will be invited to perform in our Art on My Mind showcase which will be presented in conjunction with the Black Creek Community Farm’s Annual Farm Festival. This showcase will be hosted by Jane Finch resident Kadiatu Barrie and includes a dance drop in session led by Nathan Baya followed by performances by Hip Hop/Colombian Afro Indigenous Collective New Tradition Music, Jane Finch R&B singer Kibra and hip hop powerhouse Sydanie. The event will be DJ’d by Jane Finch Hip Hop dancer and educator DJ CUR8. Rain Date: August 2
Migration Celebration Migration Celebration uses theatre arts to honor the vital role of birds, butterflies, and animals in our ecosystems and daily lives. Shadowland artists will be in residence at RV Burgess Park for three days, culminating in a community parade during the Friday Bazaar. Join Shadowland’s arts programming for all ages, where you can create costumes and puppets, learn music and songs, share stories, experience Indigenous teachings and go on nature walks. Cameroonian musician Njacko Backo will collaborate with Shadowland’s Chris Wilson and Jim Bish to lead music workshops and provide parade tunes. Alan Colley will offer Medicine Wheel teachings and guide walks to explore the creatures and natural medicines found in the park. All these activities will culminate in a spectacular parade, where everyone is invited to tour the park in a joyous and colorful celebration of birds, butterflies, and animals.
