This program will be geared towards youth and emerging artists (between the ages of 14-25) who wish to hone and improve their songwriting, live performance, and dance skills.As the founder of Jane Street Speaks, Baya brings extensive experience facilitating music workshops for emerging musicians. He also has a strong history of creating performance platforms that spotlight, recognize and celebrate the talents and achievements of emerging artists.Engaging up and coming hip hop and R&B artists from west end Toronto including the Jane Finch community, Baya will facilitate 20 hours of songwriting, performance and dance workshops.Participants will learn about the building blocks of songs including how to write an intro, verse, hook, chorus, bridge, outro and ad libs as well as how to prepare for a live performance They will have opportunities to participate in cyphers in order to gain experience in improvisatory freestyling. The curriculum will focus on the art of performance including developing a strong stage presence, demonstrating how to captivate audiences by emotionally connecting with them, and integrating movement and choreography into your performance.A select number of workshop participants will be invited to perform in our Art on My Mind showcase which will be presented in conjunction with the Black Creek Community Farm’s Annual Farm Festival. This showcase will be hosted by Jane Finch resident Kadiatu Barrie and includes a dance drop in session led by Nathan Baya followed by performances by Hip Hop/Colombian Afro Indigenous Collective New Tradition Music, Jane Finch R&B singer Kibra and hip hop powerhouse Sydanie.
