Enjoy inspirational music and gospel from Canadian Mezzo Soprano, Melissa Davis. As a dynamic concert soloist, she has played principal roles in many concert and opera productions throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Expect a moving three-part setlist comprised of hymns and other songs borrowed from the oral traditions of the African-American culture, like “My God is So High,” “His Name So Sweet” and “I Go to the Rock.”

Ready to dance? With the lush arrangements and vocals setting the tone, this will be a night to remember with classic hits by Al Green, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, The Temptations, The Commodores, Smokey Robinson, Lou Rawls, among many other iconic male soul vocalists — all blended with classic crooning and swinging jazz standards.

On National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrate Indigenous music through a blend of classical and contemporary works featuring arias by Métis composer Ian Cusson, selections from Louis Riel and evocative pieces by Serbian-Canadian composer, Ana Sokolović. Emma Pennell, one of Canada’s rising opera stars, brings the depth of her expressive soprano voice to each piece, reflecting both personal and cultural narratives.

Celebrate Japan In Scarborough!

Nagata Shachu presents “Celebrate Japan in Scarborough!” which will feature a 30-minute hands-on taiko drumming/movement workshop, followed by a 60-minute taiko drumming concert. The program will take place in four Scarborough park locations in June and July. In addition to our thunderous taiko drums, the concerts will feature Japanese bamboo flutes and a variety of traditional percussion instruments. Between songs, members of the ensemble will introduce the pieces, as well as give insight into our instruments and costumes, Japanese culture, and our artistic practice.

This July, Guild Park becomes a vibrant gathering place as Family Fest returns with four days of performances, workshops, and activities designed for all ages. As Scarborough’s premier festival dedicated to young audiences, Family Fest showcases the performing arts through interactive workshops, captivating performances, and engaging activities designed for everyone from toddlers to teenagers to the young at heart!

You’ll be captivated by Métis fiddle and storytelling duo Tibert et Douzie, dance along with the rhythms of Spirit of Africa, and roar with laughter at Classic Munch Mayhem. Hands-on workshops include a ukulele play-along, poetry writing and hula hoop fun. With pop-up performances, kid-focused crafts, and Scarborough’s most delicious delicacies, Family Fest is sure to surprise and delight the whole family!

All programming is free and accessible, ensuring that every family can take part in this joyful celebration of creativity and community.
