July 10-13, various times

Porch View Dances

Porch View Dances (PVD): ‘Real People Dancing In Real Spaces’, an annual award-winning community dance event that engages everyday people as creators, storytellers, and performers – many of whom have never danced before. Audience members are guided through the neighbourhood to see new dance works created by professional choreographers on the front porches and lawns of residential homes. The performance culminates in a “Flock Landing” at the local park, where audience members of all ages and mobility levels are invited to participate in the dance.

Presented by Kaeja d’Dance, PVD celebrates the stories of people in our city, taking dance out of the theatre and into our daily lives, sending the powerful message that art is for everyone.

STARTING LOCATION: London Street, Seaton Village (between Euclid and Palmerston)

*ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS*: Sunday, July 20, at 2 PM is the designated Accessible Day, featuring ASL interpretation and wheelchair assistance. Wheelchair-friendly routes and volunteers are available every day of the festival. E-mail kaeja@kaeja.org for more information.

WHAT TO BRING: Seating is general. We encourage you to bring water, and a folding stool, blanket or cushion for sitting, if you prefer. We encourage you to dress appropriately and don’t forget to bring sun protection!

Dance Together Festival

The Dance Together Festival offers free community dance workshops and events that celebrate positive and accessible dance experiences. Throughout the summer, Mimico Square is transformed with a colourful dance floor mural and becomes vibrant community dance space. Every year, the neighbourhood is invited to help paint a new dance floor mural and participate in open dance workshops in diverse styles including West African, Hip Hop, Brazilian Forró, Kathak, Cuban Salsa and European Folk Dance. The festival will also feature live music and dance performances on the mural. The activities are open to all levels, ages and experiences.
