Bangladeshi Queer Liberation (BQL) is hosting a one-day multidisciplinary arts mela at Dentonia Park where we will gather to celebrate queer and trans Bangladeshi resistance, joy, and cultural expression through storytelling, performance, visual arts, and film. Since 2023, our collective was founded and began hosting annual picnics at Dentonia Park celebrating the Bengali New Year. In 2025, our celebration involved organizing a grassroots Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year) Festival that invited caterers, artists, vendors and the wider community to host a landmark event unprecedented in our diaspora here. Our 2026 mela is an extension of our beloved cultural tradition of attending festive gatherings back home with fun activities, theatre performances, and vibrant cultural heritage of our Bengali people since independence and pre-partition periods. BQL invites community members and allies to come out and celebrate a beautiful summer day filled with live performances, music, art, dance, interactive storytelling, collaborative art-making, delicious cultural food, short film screenings and a feature length Bengali film to close the night.
