“It is an exciting time for the arts in Toronto and it is an exciting time for our city overall. I believe this success is a result of investments we have made in the arts, in culture, in education, in our city and in its growth," Mayor John Tory said in his remarks at the Mayor's Arts Lunch on May 8, noting that the all-night arts event Nuit Blanche will expand across the city by 2021 with installations in Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York and downtown, and that 2021 will mark the year of public art in Toronto, which will include the creation of a 10-year public art strategy.
“The city continues to invest in the arts and is committed to seeing it grow. We know how important it is for the success and vibrancy of our city.” “Innovation and persistence are the hallmarks of this year’s finalists – Toronto’s artists continue to propel us forward to make change,” said Claire Hopkinson, Director & CEO, Toronto Arts Council and Foundation. “Congratulations to all the winners and finalists of this year’s Toronto Arts Foundation Awards – their skill, imagination, and curiosity embody the very best of Toronto and their commitment to the arts helps enrich our creative city.”
