Toronto Arts Foundation announces Shana Hillman as Director of Operations, East End Arts

TORONTO, March 1, 2017 – Toronto Arts Foundation Director & CEO, Claire Hopkinson, announced Shana Hillman as the Director of Operations for East End Arts, a Local Arts Service Organization currently being incubated by the Foundation.

“We are pleased to welcome Shana to the leadership team at East End Arts as it prepares for incorporation as a non-profit charitable organization,” said Hopkinson. “She’s a respected and accomplished arts leader.”

Hillman will join Director of Programming Cindy Rozeboom in championing East End Arts’ mandate to unite, inspire, and enhance the communities of east Toronto with the transformative power of the arts.

“With Cultural Hotspot East York focussing on our area in 2017, East End Arts is at the centre of cultural activity. We couldn't be happier to welcome Shana to our team as we celebrate the east end's position as a cultural hub outside Toronto's downtown core,” says Rozeboom.

Hillman currently sits on the Board of Directors for Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts and is President of Small Print Toronto. She was the Artistic Director, Dance, on the programming team that just created An Honest Farewell, Toronto for Everyone’s four day farewell bash for Honest Ed’s.

“East End Arts has galvanized a remarkable community of artists and residents in Toronto’s east wards (29-32) and I am eager to continue developing the partnerships that will be crucial to harnessing the power of the arts to heighten quality of life and revitalize buildings, neighbourhoods and our city,” remarks Hillman.

For the last four years, Hillman was the General Manager at Kaeja d’Dance, a contemporary dance company known for their bold choreography, international tours, films, and most recently for their imaginative production, Porch View Dances which turns neighbours into dancers and front porches into stages. The work was named Best Site Specific Work by the Globe and Mail.

Hillman’s producing and management experience spans over 17 years. Highlights include management roles with inDANCE, YWCA Toronto, Creative Trust and Toronto Dance Theatre.

Shana will join East End Arts as Director of Operations on March 13, 2017.

East End Arts is one of six Local Arts Service Organizations in Toronto. East End Arts creates a network between artists and communities that allows for the exchange of ideas, energy, and resources; supports local artists in their practice and projects; promotes engagement with the arts as a means towards increased joy, vitality, and understanding; and encourages everyone to contribute to the evolving story of Toronto’s east end through artistic dialogue.
