Deputy Director Susan Wright Announces Plan to Step Down

Susan Wright

TORONTO, June 2, 2023 - Susan Wright, Deputy Director of Toronto Arts Council (TAC) and Toronto Arts Foundation, has announced that she will step down from the role in the fall of 2023. Earlier this week, Susan spoke to both Boards of Directors as well as staff about her plan to retire following her last day on October 31.

“As with any job, it is the shared relationships that have been important,” said Susan. “I am incredibly privileged to have worked with some amazing, talented, inspiring, and dedicated people over the past 24 years. We have shared a commitment to Toronto’s arts community and I remain grateful to have been given the opportunity to work among many of you.”

Susan joined the organizations as Director of Operations in 2000. She was promoted to Deputy Director in 2015. Among her many responsibilities, Susan has been instrumental in advancing the organizations’ strategic planning, policy and program development, and has been a leader in advocacy and relationship-building with elected officials.

“Susan has made immeasurable contributions to TAC and the Foundation and to Toronto’s arts sector in her 24 years of leadership. She has been a steady force for good in building up the organizations, moving them forward, and supporting and advocating for artists and arts organizations across the city and beyond,” said Kelly Langgard, Director & CEO, Toronto Arts Council and Toronto Arts Foundation. “While we wish Susan well and embrace the opportunity that change brings, she will be very missed.”

A job posting for the role will become available in the summer.
