Announcing the Recipients of the 2022 Newcomer Arts Award
Six artists were named the recipients of the 2022 Newcomer Arts Award
TORONTO, May 25, 2022 - Six artists were named the recipients of the 2022 Newcomer Arts Award at a public event today at Nathan Phillips Square. The recipients were announced on stage as part of the City of Toronto's Newcomer Day celebration. Administered by our Neighbourhood Arts Network, the Newcomer Arts Award is designed to support the future potential of newcomer artists working in a range of disciplines across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Supported by RBC Foundation, a $2,500 cash prize is given to support each recipient’s artistic practice.
The 2022 recipients are:
- Murshed Aldhahri, singer
- Pilar América, musician
- Laurent Good, visual artist
- Sahar Askary Hemmat, multimedia artist
- Omid Shakiba, filmmaker
- Irina Lerman, ballet artist, choreographer and teacher
